The distance is 500 kms. The fastest train between these 2 cities is Chennai-Mysore Shatabdi Express which takes 7 hrs via Bangalore. It leaves Chennai at 0600 and reaches Mysore at 1300.
The other train is Kaveri Express which travels at Night.
There are numerous trains to Bangalore from Chennai like, Bangalore Passenger, Brindavan Express, Bangalore Mail, Lallbaugh Express.
From Bangalore there are Tippu Express, Mysore Passenger, Swarna Jayanti Express to Mysore.

Chennai and Mysore by road it is 490 Kms via Vellore - Krishnagri - Hosur - Bangalore - Mandya or thro Vellore - Chittor - Mulbagal - Hosakote - Bangalore - Mandya. Both the roads are in good condition in fact Hosur route all thro out is four track. To bye pass Blore you have Ring Rods (toll free)
By train in you are a Middle class person kindly look for Chennai - Mysore Exp which starts from Chennai at 21:30 and reaches Mysore at 7:30 next day. You have option of SL, 3AC, 2AC. Which will not force you to waste your day by travel.
If you are able to spend day and more money 2607 Shatabdi is available which starts from Chennai at 06:00 and reaches Blore at 11:00 and Mysore at 13:00. This is fastest train.
Plenty of trains like Brindavan, Lalbagh, Blore Mail one more Shatabdi are available between Chennai and Blore from Blore either your may do onward journey or by buses like KSRTC you can reach Mysore through out the day and night in 3 hrs.

From Pndicherry there is no train for the chennai as i know but by bus it takes one night and i have no idea about maysore but i Think it is the one more night from chennai.
