First of all, San Antonio is an awesome place to live. There is much to see and to do. Plus you are in a great place in Texas, near Austin, which is alot of fun, too. You could keep in contact by phone, letter, send postcards, emails, and you can invite them on breaks or vacations to visit you. The food, the whole environment will be exciting to you, and it will show in your communication with them. There may be a time that the communication may die down a bit, but don't ever forget their birthdays, holidays, and special days. I've had friends my whole life I still keep in contact with. Some I haven't seen in 20+ years, but the friendships are still there. It's amazing how many cards, emails and things I get in the mail. Friendships last a lifetime!

It's always hard moving away from friends. Because your schedules will be very different, email is an excellent way to keep in touch. You won't have to worry about missing any information because it will all be right there in front of you. Also, think about Myspace, Facebook, and instant messaging. If your friends don't have internet access, you may have to rely on writing letters.
Make the best effort that you can with what resources you have access to.

How old are you? Are you old enough to work? if you are maybe you should consider getting a job and saving enough money for trips. Between visits you could use the phone and the internet, though that doesnt always work.

You can write letters to them, e-mail them, use instant messengers like AIM, Yahoo Messenger or Windows Live Messenger, chat on the phone (but it is quite expensive) or use Skype, which allows you to chat for free.
