I agree. It was also a more startling departure from earlier music. By the time we got to Abbey Road, we were practically taking good music for granted from the Beatles, and it seems a carelessly produced album compared to Sgt. Peppers.

All their albums were good in all respects. The times had changed a bit in that one or two years. There are great gems in Abbey Road like "Something" by George, "I Want You (She's So Heavy)", "Because", and the recurring theme of "You Never Give Me Your Money" and "Golden Slumbers". Abbey road was a dual concept album. Some singles at the beggining, some incoherent ideas taped together one after the other and a small three part opus at the end and then finished with a joke that tells the story of how shakey the band was with "Her Majesty". Abbey Road was their last album in the studio. The reason being because Phil Spector took way too long putting the finishing touches on the Let It Be album. I digress. Sgt. Peppers was a complete concept album from beggining to end. The production was not as sleek as Abbey Road, but it was an iconoclast of it's time. It trancended what was conventional at the time, and still is! You can say Sgt. Peppers is timeless. But to debate which Beatles album is better than the other is like saying apples are the best because they're red and me saying apples are the best because they're green.
