Did Rin from the Kakashi Gaiden die or go missing? I'm not sure because I've hurd that she died, and then that she went missing... so which is it?

Well the Current Theory is that she's dead because during the Training/Zabuza Arc (it's either that arc or perhaps the one where he 's training sasuke to take on Gaara) Kakashi reveal to the Team that all those who are dear to him are dead. It could mean that Rin is in fact dead. However her wherabouts are currently unknown in the Naruto universe...
my personal oppinion is that she's dead or left cause her love for kakashi was unrequited.

how come i dont see Rin during the 3rd hokage's funeral? I have been replaying the scene for many times but i still dont see her presence on the scene like what you guys mentioned.
if you're talking about the purple haired girl who is an ambu is Rin, then,,,you're wrong guys because that girl is just a member of ambu and kakashi used to be the leader of ambu. That girl was just paying respect to him and her dead bf who was killed by Gaara's sensei.
I'm guessing shes still alive and shes not that important until kishimoto would draw her or tell her side of story.

She is not dead really. Proof of this is in the episode in which the third hokage's funeral was taking place. She can be clearly seen in one of the scenes.

i first thought she was dead because kakashi said all who are dear to him are dead ,but in the third hokages funeral she can clearly be seen .
