Astronomers recently called it a "dwarf" planet. They created a new definition of a planet, and Pluto is not it. It's just a little dwarf.

Nothing really has changed. The only reason it got "demoted' in the "scientific community" and I use that term loosely, was that so very few people showed up at the meeting that day - they considered it to be stupid and a waste of time - and so many of the scientific community never showed up to vote. The few that did attend the meeting were pissed off and decided Pluto was no longer a planet. Oh well, sucks to be you! I could get pissed off and decide .. oh well, bottom line, that's the story. Pluto still exists. Left up to the likes of those people, the earth would still be flat.

The only official organization that can name celestial objects and give them official names is the International Astronomical Union. They decided to demote Pluto from being a planet to being a dwarf planet.

last i heard, it was re-classified from 'planet' to a kiuper belt object. looking at the eccentric orbit, size, and distances of pluto, it's not a big mystery why the change.
