As well as the defrag and clean-up, make sure you haven't got a mountain of "temporary internet files" which should be deleted every day anyway, and then, make sure you haven't got something like AVG set to do an automatic scan each morning. My PC started to go slow and nothing showed up on the task bar (click on the clock!) but the light was on all the morning - and then just by chance I spotted a quick flash on the screen which told me that the scan was finished - and when I checked, I'd inadvertently switched it to self-scan instead of self up-date! - so it's well worth checking to see if you've got something like that going on underneath it all without you realising it.

Keeping the PC idle sometimes sends the ISP server a small ping that this PC is not in use and so that the ISP server can redirect network priority to more active user. simply type "ipconfig" on start meny > run. or PING the server with the gateway.

Or you can just restart the PC.

Also , you can try system mechanic to defrag the ram before you use the Mozill or Firefox.

try using OPERA.

check any application that automaticaly running while computer idle and also the power management that could put the harddrive into a sleep mode while idle.

if you using winXP:
you can add more ram or set the virtual memory from
- right click on my computer and choose properties
- click on tab advanced
- under performance click on settings
- click on tab advanced
- under virtual memory click on settings

you can set the recomended value (or put maximum value available) or system managed size (let the windows set for you)

then again, defrag your drive, deleting temp files, clean up your browser cache and history files will also help to improve your computer performance

you think you keep the computer idle, but sometimes some anti-virus, firewall and anti-spam softwares are still running, especially the anti virus software, they may do a througout scan against your whole harddisk, this may use up your memory. so the computer need to do more swapping between the memory and the harddisk. restarting your computer will solve the problem.
