Depends on what you're looking for.
For coasters there is no better than Cedar Point with 68 rides and 16 coasters (The newest coaster, Maverick, opens in May!)
Kings Island in Ohio has a nice combo of old and new rides with the Beast, the longest wooden coaster in the world and the Son of Beast, the first wooden coaster with a vertical loop (which, unfortunately is now closed)
Busch Gardens Africa in Florida has a few very fun coasters and a whole plethora of animals to discover! In fact, it's one of the largest zoological parks in America. It's sectioned themes of different parts of Africa make for a very unique and eclectic trip.
Sorry, these are all on the east coast but they are some of my favorite places to visit!

Aww man Sarah you seem awesome! There are never enough enthusiasts, especially on Answers!!!
Anyway, as she said it depends on what you're looking for.
But the enthusiasts at TPC voted the Sahara Hotel Casino as the best, but that doesn't really count. Indiana Beach got second, and that place looks awesome, so I think that one would be good. Cliff's Amusement Park, Story Land and Sea-World San Antonio make up 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
Anyway I don't know who you would want to follow, enthusiasts and the GP seem to have a much value system. Enthusiasts seem to read into everything more and into more of the details. The GP seems to go more into enjoying-ishness and not the details. So I don't know whose opinions you want.

Kings Island in Ohio, There use to be another A. Park in Ohio called Americana, I attended many times as a child growing up, but the park is closed now, but the wooden roller coaster that still stands is said to be the oldest wooden Coaster still standing.

Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson New Jersey is awesome. It has the largest wooden roller coaster in North America and the largest vertical drop roller coster in the world - tickets are so reasonable if you go during the week and bring a Coke can too - so it's an all around good time!
