There was speculation at the time that it was a soldier(s) that Jackson had offended. I have looked for my copy of the story but I have been enabled to locate it. Supposedly they either sent the offender(s) to his death or sent him home. If true it would have been something the South could not have let known. It would have been upsetting that a Southerner would have done something like this. For some examples of early fraggings (attacking one's own men usually superiors.) there was no action taken against them. Mr. S. Jackson was just in the wrong spot at the wrong time as he was in advance of his own troops. under the situation which he was shot the soldiers should not have been punished as they were defending their perimeter

It was dark it could have been one of many. It was a mistake, I think they let it go. Besides it was pneumonia that actually killed him not the gunshot wound. He would have survived being shot.

hmm, i dont know.....i'm sure they were punished in some way of some sort, i dont think it was ever written because i have never seen it anywhere, but then again that just could mean i havent found it yet...
