500% ... if you are having a bad day ... every thing will look sad to you... if are angry ... most things around you will anger u ... if u are happy the whole world seems happy....!!

Bangnoai ... Well if u look at reality that way then reality is non - existent!! Every single person has thier own reality, so yes reality Is what you perceive it to be!

I wouldn't go with this statement without serious reflection. There's a world of difference between what your senses perceive and the treatment your mind give to it. A camcorder can "see" things as they are, while you perceive and process the same pictures in a very different way because you have to give them a meaning that is your own entirely, and which is different for each and every person who watches these pictures. Same thing for a loudspeaker giving sounds, while what you perceive and process is in fact music that in turn can be interpreted differently by different people.

So where's reality in there?

“We see things not as they are, but as we are.”

When I think of reality and perception, I think of a diagram I saw in the book "Wordplay" by John Langdon. It represents personal reality in relation to the realities of others.

1. Picture a large number of people standing in a circle.
2. Now project equally sized wedge-shaped areas from each person. This represents each person's own reality via perception.
3. Very close in front of each person will be an area that can be seen only by that person, not by anybody on either side. Although, it might be seen by people across from us, they are probably too far away to notice. This is the area extremely personal to us.
4. Next, there is an area in front of each of us that is shared by the people closest. That could be a reality you share with family, friends, coworkers or anybody else that shares a reality with you.
5. Then you reach the large circle of uncrossed area where everybody's reality is conjoined. This is the generally-agreed-upon reality.
6. Then there is the large area behind each person in which ignorance lies.

Try drawing the diagram as instructed to see what is meant. It looks like a star-burst with a hole in the middle.

Absolutely YES!
Because there is no such thing as absolute reality. Reality is what you perceive things. The same thing, or an idea might be seen differently as a different thing/idea to different people.
As Einstein said, "Reality is just an illusion, albeit a persistent one", reality is just an illusion which remains for a relatively longer time and is widely accepted by concerned people.
For example, until the current concept of solar system was discovered, the concept of "Sun rotating the Earth" was a reality, but later it changed. We see the Sun as permanent entity thats a reality for us, however it is obvious that it too has its life limit.

Blarney! Reality exists outside of anybody's perception. If I perceive that the Grand Canyon is full of mattresses and act accordingly, I will still go splat. Doesnt matter what I am perceiving.

i do agree with this statement because everyone sees each situation differently.for example lets say a beautiful old oak tree is being cut down to make room for houses. one might see this as a horrible thing because it destroys the homes of squirrels and birds while another might see it as a good thing because they are going to own a house where the tree once stood. one might care greatly about this situation because they care about the enviroment while another might not give a second thought to it because it doesnt seem important to them. reality is reality and reality is the unfaltered truth of what is actually happening. but how you see reality is entirely based upon what you believe.

No... reality is not dependent on how anyone perceives... it depends on what the person's take is on his perceptions.... I mean we need to move a step up from the brain to the mind!!

Perception is what you make of it. Reality is reality how do you know the difference between the two??? Even if I knew I dont think I could put it into words.

No. Things aren't always what they seem.

Or maybe we can say Yes (in the sense that we can perceive it), with the qualification that our perception cannot be expected to be perfect and that there may always be things that we never perceive until its too late.

Absolutely not.

Reality is reality. And it must always be cleary distinct that reality is NOT relative.

If a murderer goes around killing children, how would you feel if you got away scot free at the trial when the lawyer convices the jury that "it was his reality to eat children. Who are we to decide what is real and that people should percieve eating children is "wrong"?
