... like property, do you think there will ever be a time when webspace becomes so expensive that you have to get a mortgage in order to buy some or will the increasing drop in the price of PC hardware mean that we shall be our own web landlords?

GearSpec - I agree with you on the disk space explosion issue but bear in mind that when we all have fibre optic connections to the internet and connect through gigabit switches, we'll no longer need to invest capital in having a hard disk that is basically redundant if you can store your data in cyberspace. It's not inconceivable that in a few years' time we have only a screen with integrated graphics card, a router and an input device.

As for buying google.com.bn or whatever - it's not quite as simple as that... try buying up names that contain the word google and you'll soon find yourself with hefty legal bills and you'll lose your case - you have no legal right to buy up copyright names in order to hold corporations to ransom and this will always end in your not having enough cash to take on a large corporation let alone win your case!

Owning webspace is like owning a terraced house above an old mineshaft.

The price of webspace will not be only for the rich overtime & here is why..The rich use so many other sources to advertise themselves and usually the personal touch gets them more investors,so doing things only online would chance taking away from potential investors that do not want to invest in an email but rather they would like to invest in the person selling the product or idea. And by doing that it would require the person to person touch.Plus it's not the webspace that costs a person,it is the people out there hoping to make a quick buck off of a person who does not know any better and able to find to ways to work the web for free and yet generate everything they were wanting out of their space.

As the improvement in technology increases, the size of the server discs will only increase. And webspace will only get cheaper and cheaper or you will get more space compared to the price. The rich will invest on these servers so that they can make more money off us and webspace will get cheaper so that they can reach a much larger crowd.

Allthough domain names will have a price increase. Domain names are unique and if it means something and is a bit popular and in the future that domain name can be used, then its price will increase. think what if you could get the domain name "www.google.com.bd", they will later pay you huge cash to get that name from you and use it as google bangladesh's home page.

Everyone will probably always be able to afford disk space/web space. But I think domain names might become very pricey over time, as we are running low, it is really hard to find a good short domain name, as someone already owns it. Some domains are selling for about $50,000, and even more. So yes probably domain names, but I don't think disk space or bandwidth will become like that, in fact I think it will get cheaper, and you will get even more!!

No. It's getting cheaper as time goes on. Three years ago I was paying £12 a year for a 10GB website with a 1GB monthly bandwidth allowance. Now I'm paying four times that for a service with 25 times the space and 2100 times the bandwidth.
