Why is pot illegal?
Based on the information i hear, its a stupid law... alcohol impairs your judgement more than weed does... and based on text book facts, alcohol is MORE harmful to your brain than marijuana is because of all the lab made chemicals in it. And you're more likely to get lung cancer from cigarettes than anything else... (even pot).
So, lets get real...
Clearly the government doesn't care if we get ****** up or if we kill our brain cells (booze).
Or if we destroy our lungs (cigs).
So don't tell me "its because it causes people to act stupid" or "it kills brain cells" or "it's bad for your lungs".... because there are many legal things that do ALL of those.
The only reason i can think of is the money issue... because it is so easy to grow, and it doesn't need to be processed (like tobacco) it wouldn't be able to be taxed... could that be it?
What do you think? let me know...

ALSO - Alcohol is more addictive than pot, and it makes you more lazy than weed does too. So dont say its because it makes you lazy... it's LEGAL to be lazy!

Someones class being an issue isn't what America is about, its about equal rights. A law shouldn't be made because rich people like to drink, and they don't like to smoke pot... that would be wrong!

Karl K is wrong about all marijuana having the same dull effect on people, there is a variate of pot called INDICA that makes people sleepy and helps people with pain. But there is another variate that most marijuana is called STAIVA, which can make people VERY creative... which could be a + for the economy, speaking in terms of Art, Writing, The Theater, and many other creative jobs that help America...

No. Each State makes and enforces their own individual drug laws. The federal government has their own drug laws. If you are arrested by a State or local law enforcement officer/detective you will be prosecuted under their laws. If you are arrested by a fed, say DEA, you will be prosecuted under federal law. If the feds ever pass a law that marijuana can be used for medical purposes, which won't happen unless Hillary wins, you will have a good defense under any State prosecution. So, go light up and tell Bill. Hello. Hey, Michael S. I'm a die hard Republican. One thing most of Republicans believe in is that the Fed govt should be smaller and leave it up to the State and local govts to manage their people and turf. If the State wants to legalize marijuana for medical reasons and it is a fair and just law most of us would not have a problem. If the State law is passed to just let idiots get stoned than the Feds should rightfully step in.

Get your facts straight, or you'll come off as a stereotypical "dumb stoner". Alcohol is a single molecule, not a collection of chemicals.
Cannabis is illegal because it'd screw with pharmaceutical industry profits. Many people might find they like cannabis far more than alcohol in terms of a recreational drug, and the alcoholic beverage industry could lose profits. Same with tobacco and the tobacco lobby. Cannabis fibers are better than trees for use in papers, so goodbye logging companies. People will start asking why the government has the right to ban substances at all. People will actually start to use their critical reasoning skills and question why they have a government that's bending them over and raping them for every dime they've got. Cannabis legalization will piss off a lot of people.

cigs and booze as you are aware are both taxable, where as marijuana is more or less contained within the boundaries of "privately owned",one of the main problems is the way the land is unaccesable to other 'owners',the way many countries have the monopoly on growing because of their particular climate making the powers that be in those countries unwilling to share the wealth, the way the land is maintained, the way the crops are heavily guarded, the way of life that these owners wish to keep and lets fact, the higher up the ladder the more stink you get BUT in a place where you are more or less untouchable,,where the money is laundered through businesses that do not belong to the people at the top, that money isnt real,it doesnt go back into the country it goes directly to the top pocket so the people remain poor even if the country has a great turnover, the people who are paid to or made to support these crops do so for next to nothing and they know what side their bread is buttered.marijuana will never be legalized because the crops are NOT for sale,,who in their right mind(?) is going to say to any government "ok,,you take 25% of my millions and control my crops" never going to happen,,would you? the hole of critisism has been dug and it cannot be refilled with a new tale of "it isnt as bad as we made out really" just because the owners have changed.i havent bothered with all the death distruction, prostitution, murder, child labour/slavery because i guess you have heard it all before AND i will not be a hypocrit.make of it as you will !

at 44, I thought that it would surely be legal by now, considering I started smoking when I was 13. I have come to the conclusion that it has to do with prohibition. If they made it legal, then found out the productivity level of the country dropped 40% and it had to be made illegal again, they would have the same problems as the prohibition had. Just a guess. Seems to me it would be a huge tax base. Concerning booze and cigs, booze was illegal, that didn't go well. Cigs are under the gun and although not illegal, home and your car are about the only places you can smoke right now.

It violates our freedom under the Bill of Rights to have it illegal. People should be able to use it as a holy sacrament, and as it is not one of the things expressly listed as a Federal law in the Constitution, it should be left to the state to decide.
There is obviously some sort of corporate BS standing in the way of legalization.
Check out LEAP, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition if you want to learn more about it. It's a bunch of current and former law enforcement officers and judges who support legalization for good reason.

I think it has to do with the pharmaceutical companies and the power they have to sway laws that threaten their profits. Let's face it, if you can get help with pain, and other medical and emotional problems (anorexia) from smoking pot, you won't need to take those little pills. I also think that the textile companies have an influence too because hemp can be used to make a variety of things that they are currently making. It's all about the money.....you're exactly right.

I used to smoke and asked myself this question many times and all i could come up with is that it makes you lazy. And who needs a lazy citizen, we need people who are productive members of society if we want to stay on top. Alcohol and tobacco stay in your system for a much shorter time than Marijuana.

how did it become a contest between these three vices? they are all life ruiners and should be avoided. booze and cigs kill more people who do not partake but dope smokers are contribute far less than they would if sober. i believe people should be allowed to engage in any vice they choose as long as it dosent affect me. so as long as you are not on the public dole than what do i care? but i do not wish to pay for your vice. so a good balance may be to allow such things as long as you dont do it with my money. i can barely afford my own vices.
so if you can smoke weed and continue to contribute to society more power to you, but of course you cannot.
