Their average life span is estimated at 20-25 years or even a bit less, but they can reach the age of about 40 years. This is about bottlenose dolphins, there are other kinds but I can find most about the bottlenoses!

they could live up to 40 years in 30 or 40 years but not anymore. pollution and three mile nylon gill nets are taking out huge numbers of these highly intelligent creatures. they have bigge brains than us. maybethey are killing them because the government sees them as a possible threat. as somebody said: "It is a brave new world!" cleve humans a million, dolphin zero. they aren't so smart afterall,eh?

Not sure about dolphins, but I know Orcas live much shorter lives in captivity, as do Elephants.
