Yes, it is a negative stereotype and completely false information.
It's meant to be derogitory when used.
If you check with the CDC and W.H.O. (World Health Organization) you'll find that world wide nearly 85% of all new HIV/AIDS infections are to HETEROSEXUALS.
The Stereotype was started because in the United States of America the first known cases were in the Gay male community. It was thought of to be some sort of gay cancer at first. This only added fuel to the fire that this disease was somehow started as God's way of eliminating gay men because of the type of sex they enjoyed.
It spread very fast in the gay community because, at the time, most gay men had frequent unprotected sex with multiple partners.
The truth is that HIV/AIDS can be spread through any type of bodily fluids that contain blood. IE Blood, Semen, Vaginal fluids, syliva ONLY if there is blood contamination through an open wound in the mouth or if there is another infection which has caused the lungs to bleed.
Casual contact, such as hand shaking, using the same toilet, hugging, closed mouth kissing, sharing mutual items such as pens, paper, books...non-food related objects...do not transmit this disease.

Good ?. Here you go:
1st off, its AIDS. not AIDs or AID's. Around the late 70's, aids was a big thing and it was really only surfacing in the Gay community. That's why this "stereotype" is almost always associated w/ Gays and the also stereotypical Gay Sexually-Active lifestyle.
Now-a-day's, everybody's got it. LoL Just kidding... what I mean is that AIDS is found in Gay people AND straight people.
Ignorant people who resort to throwing the figurative stone use this stereotype to their liking... they suck.

Aids started somewhere in Africa according to a 60 Minutes show I watched. It became rampant through the gay community and was at first thought to be a gay only decease.
AIDS is spread through the exchange of body fluids with a infected person. Through sex, sharing needles, or getting body fluids in an open wound, eyes, or mucus membranes. There is no cure for AIDS.

A lot of it has to do with the media and with US politics when in the middle of the AIDS crisis you had a president who refused to utter the word AIDS (We didn't do much better in Canada)...The whole media view was that it was a homosexual disease...then it became a homosexual disease and a Haitian disease...then IV drug users were in the scene...but middle straight America was always immune...Of course it's not true..I new straight women who were dying of AIDS in the late 1980's...but by then the background had been set..Never mind that it's a heterosexual disease in the rest of the world..America will always believe that it's a gay disease because they feel safe thinking that way.

The stereotype is not that all gay men have AIDS, it's that gay men are more likely to carry HIV than straight men or women. And unfortunately, it's true. I wish nothing but the best for gay people though, and I think it's a real shame. You opened up the door for some crazy people out there to give you answers that are hate-inspired filth, so please just believe me when I say gay people are not freaks, they are not evil, or sexually depraved. They are people with feelings just like yours. It's just that they prefer the same sex rather than the opposite. I can think of worse things. But a lot of ingnorant people out there don't care to educate themselves and point fingers at gay people, calling them sinners, meanwhile they go cheat on their spouse. It's a weird world out there and I hope you choose the path of the open minded and not the hate-filled.

NOTE: DJM don't believe everything you see on TV. Let's make a quick assessment of the correctness of the allegation.
FACT - African folks are highly conservative. No other state other than South Africa recognizes homosexuality. Even in South Africa, I believe majority of people here support the new law.
FACT - Thirty or so years ago, it was more difficult for men in any African country to engage in homosexuality. Even those who could have been in such relationships had public wives and born children from their recognized marriages.
FACT- There's no scientific proof that AIDS started in Africa. Interestingly, Africans became complacent and did nothing about the disease because there was this American conspiracy theory where people believed that the disease is only in America and that America wanted us not to enjoy our lives in sympathy with them.
Now to the question: It is a fact that majority of HIV/AIDS sufferers are in sub-Saharan Africa. And majority are women. It is therefore a fallacy that homosexual are carriers of AIDS. AIDS does not discriminate. Rich, poor, educated, illiterate, black, white, heterosexual, homosexual, etc are vulnerable!

Because when aids first showed up in america it was mostly gay men that had it. So it has stuck as the stereo type, yet after 30 years, and the fact that people that had gotten blood transfusions before 1985 were all also mostly infected, that the stereo type would dissipate some. But people are afraid of Aids, and Gays, so its stuck

In America AIDS started in the gay male community. In Africa it was widespread in the hetero communities. Now in America it is shifting to the straight community through drug use. When Americans first heard about it, that is where the stereotyping started. You're pretty young, so my advice would be to stay away from drugs entirely and when you are ready "play" safely.

Because the Center For Disease Control will tell you that anal sex causes AIDs and many other diseases. Homosexuality is a very high risk health issue. Some have either become more careful but still the use of condoms is not consistent in more recent surveys and condoms can tear. It is not a stereotype. There are other diseases just as deadly resulting from the medical disorders of the homosexual practices.
Straight folks who indulge in sexual promiscuity run the risks of many diseases as well. Bisexual activities increase AIDs and the lack of screening of those contributing blood etc. The answer to your question is these two words; per capita.

because the gays more likely to get aids
americans only care about what happens on american
more than half of male patients is enrage into homosexual behavior http://hab.hrsa.gov/history/fact2005/men_with_men_and_hivaids.htm
now you must put a gay and a straight into a same condition:same living standard, same educational standard
it true that there are more straights infected hiv world wide
but remember, most of them come from poor countries of africa, asia
these countries have bad education, bad healthcare system so it is not surprise if aids is spreading fast among straights population
and the gays in those countries are dicraminated,so they are more careful, and don't have sex openly
