its an older term but is still in use . the word means the person does not drink any alcohol.
it was sometimes not always used years ago to refer to a person who was active in the prohibition support group.
this term should not be used as an insult instead as a sort of polite or indirect way of saying that person does not drink .
i say use this word like that because it is sometimes as a result of his or her religious beliefs that they don't drink and or that the person has become a successfully reformed alcoholic.

You are wrong.There not have a word 'teetotler' in English.
Teetotaller = A teetotal person
Teetotal = Advocating or characterised by total abstinence from alcoholic drink.
