well because it starts on boxing day!
The origin of the name is from England. - Household serving staff in wealthy households still had to work on Christmas Day to serve the traditional Christmas lunch etc and clean up, see to the families needs etc, but as a reward, were they were given the following day - the 26th off. As they had spent Christmas away from their own families, the household would present them with a box containing left-over Christmas lunch for them to share with their families - Hence "Boxing Day", the day you receive a box. For staff of shops and factories, the foreman or manager would present them with a box with food or gifts inside instead.
The MCG test is just called Boxing Day test as it starts on Boxing Day every year.

Because the day next to christmas (26th december) is known as the "boxing day."
There are many different opinions about the origin of this name, but most agreed one is that in the ancient time the "Box of the church" in which all the funds were collected throughout the year was opened on the day next to christmas... and the money was distributed from the box to the poors on the same day that is why it was named as "Boxing Day."
In cricket Australia is the first country to initiate the boxing day test and this match is always played at Melbourne ground against the opponent present at that particular time... now South Africa and New Zealand has also started playing boxing day tests.
So that was all about boxing day test match...

The day folloiwng the Xmas day(26th Dec) is called the Boxing Day. The test match played on that day is called the Boxing Day's Test. Traditionally it is iconic for the match to be played on that day in Australia, South Africa. Initially 26th was not the starting day for the Melbourne Test and SA felt offended.
