I mean there wouldn't be anywhere for then to run if they did manage to escape, plus getting prisoners to mine the moon might be a money saving idea.

Well every year the government spends billions of dollars every year just on there annual budget, if the government decided to funnel a little bit of the millitary budget towards this idea it could become a reality.

Lol, this is my fav question ever.

I'm all for it haha, but I mean the means and technology to send even a couple scientists to the moon to live in a lab is just barley existent, and too expensive right now. Even if we did get a moon base, until we could really build like a house, apartment, prison, it will take centuries, if at all. It would be too expensive anytime in the foreseeable future to cart prisoners to the moon.

If we ever could though, it sure would be funny, I'm all for it. We should start a congressional bill or something.

Well, Hellbent
let's break this down
seeing that an adventure like this would run into the multiplied billions just to create a structure on the moon's surface that would support life and sustain it----then and only then could you Deliver the prisoners to this place at a cost that would probably be somewhere in the neighborhood of approximately 2.5 million dollars each---THEN you could figure the cost of MAINTAINING these New Age Soldiers of Fortune which could run into the millions of dollars per month seeing that they would have to have steady supplies of not only food -- but fuel AND oxygen --- okay then you would have the personnel who would be Overseeing this little picnic who would All have to be cross-trained in a dozen different technical fields and paid hazard pay and harsh duty pay because THEY THEMSELVES would be esentially incarcerated on a desert planet too-----------NOW-----these hooligans are now going to be "mining"-----what ?? Moonrocks ?? What-- for sale in Nasa's gift shop in Houston ?? And Now we have the "Saving Money " thing-------WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING HERE-- we could give them all six or eight million apiece---buy them a tropical island somewhere---build a four star resort hotel on it---stock it with prime rib and dancing girls for the next hundred years and they probably ALL would be willling to give up their lives of crime for such a deal--- and all of THIS would be a savings in comparison--- by the absolute billions !!!!

Do the world a favor and stop thinking of such stuff
and for God's sake don't EVER consider going into the profession of accounting OR prison management---the world just simply wouldn't survive it !!!!!

I stay close to a optimal protection penitentiary interior the state of Georgia. a pair years decrease back, an inmate who were serving 3 consecutive existence sentences for homicide and premeditated homicide escaped. (How he escaped the death penalty is previous me.) both way, at the same time as shifting the guy between cellular blocks for his backyard time, something went incorrect. one way or the different, the prisoner managed to get loose killed both the guards. Inmates who witnessed the act from their cells advised how he knocked one shelter subconscious previously choking the 2d to death mutually with his bare palms. He then lower back to the first one, and commenced to stomp the guy to death. The shelter awakened in the course of the thrashing and pleaded for his existence, regardless of the indisputable fact that the inmate laughed as he endured to stomp the companies guy. The shelter later died of massive head trauma through his beating and stomping. This inmate then escaped the penitentiary through utilising the keys the guards saved on themselves, and became on the run until eventually being recaptured 2 years later. He became modern-day in Florida as I remember, probable Miami. (you may draw close the incident I talk of.) Now this guy wasn't all and sundry particular. He became a prisoner serving an noticeably lengthy sentence. one which he would under no circumstances see the mild of day. He escaped from penitentiary, and for the subsequent 2 years became brilliant. So am I heavily telling you i imagine the gitmo prisoners would get away from those prisons? sure. the way i check out it, if an uneventful assassin can do it, then a terrorist has basically as a lot chance. regardless of the indisputable fact that, interior the case of the terrorist, issues worsen. not basically do they get away from the penitentiary, yet now they get away into the continental US, putting them in best places to wreak havoc and kill our voters. Be honest. in case you had a penitentiary with one or more desirable of those adult men in it, understanding how straightforward it would want to be for some prisoners to flee, would you sleep nicely at evening?

I don't care if it's a good idea or not. But if this were to happen I would definately apply to be a prison gaurd or even a janitor at that complex. I really desire some good exploration adventure.

It's stupid idea. You have to put guards, fancy jail complexes, need close supervision(means many staff to run the place)... etc. You're basically assuming criminals would behave themselves and be good citizen once their on the moon not to mention other things that completely don't make any sense at all. It's logistics nightmare to do that.

No: too expensive. It costs so much to put a warm body on the moon that only people doing absolutely necessary work can afford to be there.

Yes, your idea is good. But it is really possible when traveling moon becomes very cheaper and our technology becomes so advanced that we would able to create atmosphere on moon to sustain life.

money saving? do you know what it costs to maintain a life structure on low gravity, zero atmosphere environment? Do you know how much it costs to deliver good to the moon? Cost savings?
