Isn't it generous of Oprah to go to africa and open a 40 million dollar girls school when she made the money here. By then way I wonder if the money is tax deductable for her,so we can pay for it.

I think she did a wonderful thing, she has changed those underprivileged girls lives... now they have a future... Vs. Americans, here everyone and anyone who is willing can receive an education... a great education... at the expense of the government... i.e financial aid, scholarships... ~~~Princess~~~

are you kidding me??? oprah in worth way over 1.6 billion dollars now, yet you wonder if 40 million on a new school is generous? i dare you to do the math on that one, the percentage is way blow 1%, what is she going to do with the rest of that money? ill tell you, she wont give it to charity, she just bought another house worth over 325 million and spends only one week a year in it, with that money she could actually make a difference in Africa like she says she is, instead of helping a few hundred kids. dont get me wrong, she is nice and all but way overated, instead of buying 25 million dollar peices of jewelry she could help others a lot more. i have bearly any money yet i donate to others like crazy when i get the chance, its just common respect, which oprah appears to be lacking

While I'm sure her intentions were kind. I think that the lavish price could have been much more well spent. I mean for example, in a country where education for both boys and girls is difficult, I find it hard to believe that she would open a school for only 150 girls, that has fireplaces in a country that's hot!!! and totals 40 million.

I'm sure 40 million could open at least ten schools without fireplaces and other unnecessary luxuries, and house a million more kids, giving them all the oppurtunity to learn and have a hot meal throughout the day..

that's just my thoughts ..kudos to her still

actually oprah visit's africa every summer for the past 18 years. people over there are in greater needs of education than over here. we have free education in k-12 grades and look at the drop out rates. oprah released a statement why she didn't build the school in the usa.

Everything oprah does, is a media event. It's one thing to give from your heart and another to give and WANT everyone to know about it. I doubt very much if she just gave 40 mil away like that, it's definitely a tax write off. I agree with the other person, that says she's totally overrated. She wants to be known as a philanthropist, but fails miserably because her own needs are at the forefront. When she takes money out of her own rich pocket and gives it away for the sole purpose of benefiting another, without reaping any benefit for herself....then I'll say she's generous. She can afford it.

I'M SO GLAD YOUR NOT DOWN GRADING HER LIKE SOME PEOPLE. SHE HAS DONE A VERY GOOD THING AND IT IS
HER MONEY AND SHE CAN GO WHERE EVER SHE WANTS
TO GO TO BUILD A SCHOOL. WE IN THE UNITED STATE'S
HAS EVERYTHING AND I'M NOT SURE WHY SOME PEOPLE ARE COMPLAIN ABOUT THE NEW SCHOOL THAT SHE IS
BUILDING FOR THE POOR. HERE WHERE WE LIVE THE ARE
CONTINUING BUILDING NEW SCHOOLS FOR ALL AGES, SO
WE CAN'T COMPLAIN. PEOPLE SHOULD BE HAPPY FOR
THAT. I KNOW IT TAKES A WHILE JUST FOR THEM TO FIX THE ROADS BUT A LEAST IT GETS FIXED. SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUSS IS ALL ABOUT, IF SHE WANTS TO
BUILD, THEN BUILD AWAY OPRAH, IT IS HER MONEY AND
SHE CAN DO WHAT EVER SHE WANTS. AND FOR THE
PEOPLE THAT ARE COMPLAIN, THIS IS WHAT THEY SHOULD DO PUT YOUR MONEY TOGETHER AND BUILD
AND ALL WHITE SCHOOL AND LIVE HAPPY EVER AFTER.
AND I'M ONLY TALKING ABOUT THE PEOPLE THAT ARE
COMPLAINING. GO OPRAH!!

I'm not big on Oprah, but there are lots of rich American celebrities that help others in foreign places. So many Americans made them rich, and so many Americans need assistance, too.

All i know is that I really really admire Oprah`s compassion & love for others... She is showing The true essence of Humility to mankind! Which, by the way, is what the world needs now!

it is very nice that oprah is doing this but is an excelent cover for her evil plans to take over the world. you see porah is slowly getting everyone on her side so she can stab them in the back and become ruler of the world so avoid oprah at all costs
