first dear go to a gyno that specializes in pcos. why do you think you have it? they will do a transvaginal ultrasound to look at your ovaries and see if they have the traditional pcos sting of pearl appearance of small cysts around them. then they should test your lh/fsh ratio if is is too high then maybe. and they will check your androgen levels which are higher in most pcos patients giving them the male secondary hormone characteristics such as thinning hair, facial hair, etc..and they should also run a glucose tolerance test to see if you are insulin resistant, since this tends to run hand in hand with pcos. if you are properly diagnosed and are wanting to conceive have your gyno refer you to a reproductive endocrinologist. they can look at your test resulst and give you the best plan of action. keep in mind every pcos patient is differnt with different symptoms, meds that work, diets that work, etc....and everyone's body is different. i do not mean to be the only one to bring the i lost weight and have pcos and got preggers down. but i did all of what everyone says and i did not respond so well. i've done metformin, lost weight, low carbed it, exercised, did acupuncture, took numerous rounds of clomid, injectable meds, time home intercourse, inseminations, and stood on my head while spinning clockwise 45 times during a summer solstice. nada. but all you can do is educate yourself. decide on how much poking and prodding you can put up with. i can now drop my pants in public and not even begin to care. any decision you make regarding your reproduction is the correct decision for you. all i can offer is stay strong, try not to kill your husband while on fertility meds or just the stress of ttc, you will eventually need him, :) and chin up. it's all we can do. i do wish you the best. i've been down this road and hopefully you'll find a path off sooner than i did.

I have polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCO's),but I never knew that I had one, only after my first child was born and was trying to conceive again. So you can get pregnant even if you have PCO,but my doctor said it is either you get pregnant easily or have a hard time conceiving. There are signs that you have PCO's,like having excessive facial hair (fortunately I don't have),excessive hair on your legs (which I have).I didn't go through having to take so many medicines, but if I wasn't able to conceive the second time,I was considering taking this fertility pill (clomid),but good thing I was able to conceive...Oh and my children are 7 1/2 years apart. My first was a honeymoon baby and one more thing if you are kind of the heavy side, try to loose some weight, that is how I was able to conceive my second,I lost weight but gain them back when I got pregnant but its worth it.Goodluck!

Hi, im also a sufferer of pcos. I was also told that i may need ivf and have not been able to fall pregnant in 10 years of trying. Some people are lucky enough to have children, some not. I suggest that you keep your self upto date and research your condition. I have always been over weight and was never told that there was a connection between pcos and diabetes, which i went on to develope 10 years after being diagnosed. You could ask for a scan, but they may not be able to tell you how many cysts you have, but would be able to tell you if both ovaries were effected.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2003. Dr said it would be hard to get pregnant. I went on a diet and excersise plan and lost 70 lbs in a year. My periods became regular for about 4 months. Next thing I know I was pregnant with my second child in eight years. I gave birth to a beatiful baby boy 5 days ago. So don't give up hope. Eat healthy and get your body healthy and things just might fall into place.

If you are having some symptoms you are concerned about, go see your gynecologist and talk things out with her. There are hormone tests which can be done, and other tests to find out if it is PCOS or something else. It is best to be informed by a doctor, not just speculate whether you have something.

Instead of worrying without being diagnosed why dont you pay a visit to your doctor and get professionally diagnosed?
If you do have PCOS then there are treatment methods that will make you ovulate and help you conceive.
Good luck.
