I supposed your school meant those like Bukit Batok Driving Centre, Ubi Driving Centre and Safety Driving Centre (AMK), there are some private driving schools around.
It Really depends on your budget and luck.
Learn from a private instructor if you have a budget of less than $2K and not time-pressed. There's some private driving school / instructor offering a packaged deal to coached you until u pass, for a fixed fee ($1888 or something, not sure on the market rate now). Test fee is additional thou. If you are steady, you can opt for the time based fee that could end up cheaper overall.
I've learned from Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC) as I like the online booking facility, which allowed me to check and book online, as and when i feel like it. you could even book to go everyday if u want to pass fast. (That was years ago when BBDC was the only centre with online booking, now i think the other centres had it too??). The set-back is that i don't get a fixed instructor to monitor my progress. However, from my personal experience, 8 out of 10 of the instructor was satisfactory. The good thing about having no fixed instructor was that they could also point out some mistakes others missed out or they did not think it matter. I was able to clear TP test in two attempts over 4 months. Cost me something like $2200+ back then.
Now, if you do choose to learn from the driving centres, choose the one nearest to where you stay / work / study. From my understanding, BBDC and Safety Driving Centre are both quite ok. But avoid Ubi Driving Centre if you could, as that area was in the middle of industrial estates, lots of trucks and heavy vehicle, along with heavy traffic flow... a nightmare for learners. But than again, it does make much sense if you stay/work 10 mins from there, but rather travel an hour to or fro the other centres.
Good luck.

that depends on your luck, your budget and learning speed. if you happen to get a good private instructor, you can learn at any time you like and if you learn fast you can take the exam sooner and cost you less money if you pass you driving test.
For school wise they charge much higher price but they give you more practice on the roads that will be tested, took me about $3000 to pass my driving license from Bukit Batok Driving Centre but I would think it is worth it, hope you find what you want, cheers

Private is more cheaper...at most around $2000! & the timing is more flexible. If you go for school, when you plan the timing & you couldnt make it they still charge you. =) Best of luck! Have fun driving...

That would very much depends on the instructor. If you get a rotten private instructor, then you are done for.
And also depends on which school you goes to, you want it easy, don't go to Kampung Ubi.
