Why do people ask such stupid questions? Do they like appearing stupid? 90% of the stupid questions could be answered if the person would just do a google search.

Dave that's a good question. I believe the answer has been summed up by Oprah when she said that she quit visiting inner city schools and that no one seemed to want to learn they just wanted iPods, video games or sneakers. Most of America seems to want a handout. But I will say this it isn't just America. I go to engineering websites fairly often, and their always seems to be a post that's a request for someone to figure out something for them. It's not how they can check on something and figure it out themselves.

Sometimes people just can't think of a word to search for, especially if they know little/nothing about the subject. And knowing little/nothing about the subject might leave the person overwhelmed, confused or intimidated by the results they get.
Some people would simply prefer a direct answer to a question, one which would take little effort on their part and little effort on the part of someone who already knows the answer. Which is opposed to pouring through search results, reading essays, and comparing charts to arrive to the same conclusion.
Failing all that, Everyone else is just lazy, bored, or both.

Some people like to know the answer comes straight from another person whom can answer more questions immediately afterwards. Its kind of a secure feeling knowing the person is there to type right back. Some people find sitting still read instructions boring so they need to be actively involved by asking.

Your question is very mature. Actually purpose of asking here at yahoo is to share personal experience which we cannot find on google. But people who ask stupid questions are really silly and waste their time. The solution is... NOT to read and answer such questions. Cool but effective.
