My daughter went to college for interior design and wants to get a position as a set decorator. Not a set designer. She loves the actual decorating. Any serious info would greatly appreciated.

E mail me and let me know what state you are in.

As a writer / director/ producer I may be able to help.

With no offense meant at all I offer a few things.

I have worked with a woman recently (no offense to the gender) who happens to be a pretty decent artist. She happened also to get involved with theaters I have also been involved with. She stated or projected an assumption that she was also a scenic painter/set designer.

She's been proven inadequate often. Not in her talents, but in how she relates the fantasy to a reality, with regard to productions.

Certainly my example involves LIVE theater, and FILM is so advanced that the best can be created from the worst.

She, (your daughter) very likely should get involved in the technical aspects of decorating, as that relates to what a designer has in mind for film. Theater technolgy, even in a 2 year program is a pretty decent "basic" for anyone wanting to involve in "The Craft"

With no offense to her, again, I suggest that being even a GREAT interior designer, with a degree, might not always relate to what a director or otherwise designer might want to project.

It's a hard knock life BTW, even for the best, but worthy for anyone passionate. I've been involved for so long now, I hardly recall much else about what I've accomplished in life.
