This link will take you to the perfect card...if you have an open PCMCIA slot then i would go for it for sure. full speed usb 2.0, and no expensive pc upgrade

There are connectors with USB on one end and the serial port connector on the other. Try that first.
Before you buy it, remember that your software (windows version) RAM, ROM) processor speed might not be compatible.
It is best to have it checked out by a computer store. They can show you the cheapest ways to upgrade your current system.

For all USB devices get a converter. so you can plug it into the right spot.

If you are using Flash Drive which don't have a converter let alone slot on the old Laptop, im afraid your luck is out : /
