When you wake up you have 5 second to remember you dreams before they get wiped out of your memory. I guess it just depends on who's brain kicks in faster.

Actually a pretty interesting question for me. I have been a very light sleeper all my life, mostly because I'm always thinking and never give that dream guy much time. ;-) And I hardly ever remember a dream. From what I understand people only really have a chance at remembering the last dream before waking so I would have to figure that a lot of it depends on when you wake in the sleep cycle. Maybe someone that wakes to an alarm might have more of a chance of interrupting one, and therefore remember it. I never wake to an alarm, I can pretty much say I want to be up at such time, and it just happens.

If you only have a few seconds to remember dreams after waking up, then it seems reasonable to assume that people who have more dreams with shocking endings will remember more. Personally, I find that if I have drunk a lot (of alcohol) before I go to bed and then lie in late in the morning, I get disturbed sleep later on when I am no longer drunk. This is very conducive to memorable dreams and the only reason why I drink. Honest!

Same what the first guy says, how fast you can react to think about the dream, so you may remember more. Also, it depends on how often you have the dream. I had this one dreams twice so i remember is a lot. Another factor is how it alters your emotions. I once had this dream where i was seperated from my friends and family for 2 years, and i sware i was like crying in my sleep. I guess it's just how fast you can react to remember it, how many times you have it, and how you feel about it.

I am not sure about a real answer to your question, but I do know that on nights you wake up and remember what you dreamed you are supposed to write it down immediatly. Some weeks I remember my dreams nightly, other weeks I draw a blank. But when I practiced writing them down, *every* time, even if I woke up at 1am with one, I started remembering more details about them.

(ekhm,. this is only my opinion)
ussually, people who can remember their dreams are more smarter than anyone else. they brain have a strong memory to keep many events. they also have more strong-imagination about something.
that's why sometimes they have a "de javu's"-they feel they already seen this event before-.
