A lot depends on where you are, your experience, whether you're self-employed, and many other factors. But if you choose to work for a massage clinic, they will pay you a set rate or a percentage for each massage you do. For example, if they charge $70, they may pay you 50%, or $35.

That's not actually as bad as it sounds. You have to look at what they're providing. Do they do all the scheduling and promotion? Do they provide all of the supplies, etc. Some clinics will even contribute to your continuing education. In other words, do you just have to walk in, do your sessions and leave? If that's the case, you're in pretty good shape. If you're on your own, you have to pay for all that stuff. So if you do get a job, make sure you know what's provided, what's not, and whether you have to do any of your own promotion and marketing (which is not that uncommon).

So it's a matter of deciding which works best for you. I know you didn't really ask about self-employment vs. a clinic, but your question references what you charge and then asks about hourly or salary. If you work for someone else, you don't have much control over what you charge. If you work for yourself, you do. So I'm not sure what situation you're in.

As far as the LA area, my stepmother lives there and can get a good massage for around $60. She just found a clinic near Brentwood that's offering 60 minute sessions for $44. She tried them and said she got a great massage, and it was actually a full 60 minutes (not a 50 minute hour). I was surprised!

I'm in Seattle, and I charge $70 for an hour, $100 for an hour and a half. The going rate here is anywhere from $55 to $80 for an hour.

Best of luck!

Hourly but it depends on how nice the place is you work at unless you are doing the business by yourself. I think the hour should be 45 dollars for swedish and 50 for the deep tissue. I am training to become a massage therapist also. Congrats though. When I do hourly I tend to do deep tissue and swedish at the same time. But that depends on the massage therapist.

Did you ever think of calling other people who do the same thing, and see what they charge? You can say your interested in having a massage done and see what they charge. Or you can call the school you went to and ask what they think. Depends on the area you work in, check the internet for your area on the average income of that area and go by that.

That seems to be a standard price, i have paid as much as $70 for an hour but have also seen it as cheap as $45. I pay $65 for 1hour myotherapy massage and $70 for 1 hour reflexology massage where i go.

Seems like this will depend on the area of the country in which you live, what the market will bear!
