Your best bet is to check with the graduate schools that you will consider applying to after you earn your bachelor's degree. Take a look at their websites and see if they list requirements. If not their admissions office should be able to tell you which degree is better suited to you. Your academic advisor at the community college may be able to point you in the right direction as well.

A few of the answers come close, but several of them are just common sense guesses. The only way you can find out the specific answer to your question is to carefully read the catalogs of the colleges or universities to which you are applying. Different schools mean different things by these designations.

In some cases at some schools, you will have no choice. If you choose to major in chemistry, you will often automatically be enrolled in a bachelor of science degree. But some schools may offer the option of a bachelor of arts in some scientific or vocational areas. For instance, if you wanted to be a chemistry teacher at the high school level, you might want to earn a bachelor of arts in chemistry as well as doing what it takes to become a certified teacher. Your degree in chemistry would probably be broader and you would probably have more elective options. You might also be required to take more general chemistry courses (for example, Chemistry in Society) that might provide a more appropriate background for a teacher.

Another example would be in the area of business. If you really want to be a business person, you would probably go for a bachelor of science degree in business. But if you are interested in a vocational area that is only related to business (such as public relations), you might pursue a bachelor of arts in business that might give you more opportunity to take speech and writing classes.

The best thing to do is to get to know your academic adviser well and ask for his or her advice. Good luck!

Bachelor of Art vs. Bachelor of Science. It depends where you live. In Canada neither one is particularily more helpful as long as you have all the prerequisites for dental school. For medical school they are actually shifting from favouring science degrees to art degrees as they think it creates a more well-rounded person.
Best advice: take all the courses you could possibly need, other than that take whatever interests you!
Good luck!

BA: Bachelor of Arts
BS: Bachelor of Science
BA: is for arts eg. ( art, dancing, singing, broadcasting etc)
PS: is for math and sciences eg. (math, physics, chemistry, biology etc.)

A B.S. would be more beneficial to you. Majoring in biology or Pre Med is where most doctors get their undergraduate degree in. When you go on to medical/dental school, you can then specialize in dentistry.

Well since it is a Chemistry Major... I would say a Bachelor of Science.

Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science is similar in status, just very different titles. Science is more technical, Arts is more arts.

A BA in Mechanical Engineering wouldn't make sense.

The choice is rather what do you want to do in life? BS tends to be more fcused on the sciences, medicine and technology. BA tends to be focused in teaching, literature, writing and business.
