Does Brandon Webb deserve to be the NL Cy Young award? If you think someone else should have won it. Who and why?

No he does not deserve the NL Cy Young. Yes he had the most wins, a measly 16, but that doesn't make him deserve it. I believe that Chris Carpenter deserved to win it. Carpenter had one less win than Webb, but Carpenter also played one less game than Webb, so there is a good chance the two would have had the same number of wins (they both had 8 losses). Carpenter also allowed 10 fewer runs than Webb, had fewer walks than Webb, and more strike outs than Webb. Overall, Carpenter topped Webb any every category minus the one win, so I think that Carpenter deserves to be the Cy Young award winner.

Brandon Webb got 16 wins on a team that had nothing. All of the other candidates were on teams that had good to very good hitting.

The best hitter on the Arizona Diamondbacks was Conor Jackson who batted .291 for the season. Who is Conor Jackson? A rookie first baseman. Webb won 16 games on a team who's best hitter was a rookie 1st baseman.

Yes, Webb deserved the NL Cy Young in my book.

Like picking players for an all star team, some years certain players don't deserve the honor. Maybe the voters should take into consideration that in some years the overall performances of all pitchers may not be deserving of the Cy Young award. In this case I would rather have seen no award given than to give it to someone who clearly was NOT outstanding.

Yes I think he deserves it. He tied for 16 wins, the most in the NL. Among the 16 win pitchers, he had the lowest ERA (3.10, .31 ahead of Carlos Zambrano). Finally, he finished tenth in strikeouts with 178. Being that there was no standout option, he was not a bad choice, although there were other worthy pitchers (see John Smoltz, Carlos Zambrano, Chris Carpenter).

1. Nobody deserved that award, there were no standout pitchers in the NL this year.

2. Compton - learn to spell. full=fool?

NO he was an ok pitcher but i mean what can you say the national league is so weak to begin with that it doesn't take much to win the Cy young their. Honestly when 16 wins, wins you a Cy Young your are in an easy league
