(And they actually considered doing this on one of the later Apollo missions around the moon...)
I would have said something to the effect of:
"Jesus H. Christ lookit the size of that monolith... Just kidding, Houston." [A reference to Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey which had been released the year before.]
