So far Koufax, but with some more healthy years Santana could put up similar numbers:

Johan Santana, not to take anything away from Sandy Koufax, but Johan is over powering hitters jacked up on steroids... something Sandy knows nothing about

Santana, by far.
Johan pitches in the American League and has to deal with the designated hitter, Koufax did not.
Johan pitches in a ballpark that most pitchers--if given a chance--could knock the ball out of. Koufax pitched in spacious Dodger Stadium.
Johan pitches on a mound six inches lower than the one Koufax threw off of.
No one touches Johan Santana in today's game. No one.

Santana because he is putting up his numbers in a very much more offensive oriented time. I would compare Santana's stats to others in his era and do the same w/Koufax. I bet Santana's are a lot more dominating than Sandy's. They are both huge freaks of nature (in a good way), but I would have to be in the minority and go with Santana.

Koufax would be another 100+ million pitcher. Santana hasn't been in the leagus long enough to really compare him to anyone yet. Give him 5 more years and the comparisons can begin.

It's all Sandy. Sandy was great in a time of pure hitters. Also remember, he is considered on the the greatest pitchers every and he only played a short career due to injury. It's hard to think what he might have done if he had been healthy his entire career. Johan is a great pitcher, but no matter what his stats are, time will tell if he is ranked as one of the best ever.

You can't compare generations. It's just too hard. If Koufax faced the smarter, more powerful and overall more talented players today he would'nt have a chance.
