So far some real fascinating answers !Yeah I know. Bet Green Giant is related to Paul Bauyan. :) . I have a relative who ducks to go thru some doors. Will have to ask him how tall he is. Have some unusually tall Sudaneese in church. By comparision to 9ft that surprises me. I thought giants were more than 9ft. But then add rest of the leg, body, neck and head to a 4 foot femur and you have more than a 9ft man. Assuming the archeologist who found the bone had his facts correct and I'm not denying them. I have an old book 1871 on the giant cities of Basham which I intend to read. I hear P. Stone (www.perrystone.org) wrote a book on giants mentioned in the Bible. Does anyone know of any other books or archelogical finds ? Will check out Geinus.

It is an historical fact that the people of the Biblical age were taller than modern man - they also lived much longer (Methuselah lived to be 900 years old, and Noah 300!) In the days of King David the average man was taller than 6ft, whereas nowadays John Average is around 5ft tall. Like today too, there were exceptions and some folks in David's time reached heights of 7ft and more (Goliath purportedly nearly 3m, or 9ft!). Some 4000 years ago there lived a race of blond giants, with women reaching up to 7ft and men in general more than 9ft, called the children of Freya (many believe them t have been remnants of the people of lost Atlantis).

I was at a seminar last year October and we were discussing the origin of giants, supposedly there are numerous scriptures that support the theory that giants were the result of humans mating with the angels that fell from Heaven when Lucifer betrayed God, this is why God gave David the power to defeat Goliath. There are a lot of things in the Bible that's a bit blurry, nothing can be said with definite authority, as I said it's just one of many theories.

The African Watusi tribe were very large like 7' to 9' and there was the tallest man in the world a couple of years back he passed away I think he was 8'11 inches. They don't live a long life though. Look in the Guiness Book of World Records there are plenty of recordings. But don't forget Big Foot, and the Yeti, and the Jolly Green Giant Ho Ho Ho

This isn't history. It's mythology. Call it what you will, but in the Biblical "history" stories, the term "giants" doesn't really refer to huge people as we know giants today. It refered to "sons of the gods," the offspring of the gods who found the daughters of man to be so tempting. In other words, demigods. Check out the translations.

Well a femur bone of an Assyrian king was over four feet long. Forget where I read that, some archeology magazine several years ago.

When you say giants do you mean the fairy tale kind or just large people? I knew one in Feltham Middlesex named Edward Evans he was supposedly about 9 ft tall.
