hi ,
i guess, windows /9598/2k/ME/XP don't provide any feature that can lock a particular folder with password. However, there are lot of tools available on Internet which can help you out.
Example, http://www.everstrike.com/lock_folder.ht...
I myself have used this tool personally and it is perfect for the feature you are looking for. Rest stuff will be there in the help file of this tool.
One warning, do not try any unknown tool for locking your folders, that might expire in a month and as you'll try to unlock your folder, it'll ask for registration key, and this will cause unnecessary trouble.
I hope, this resolves your trouble.
Ya, forgot to mention one related stuff, if you've tried out vista inspirat Brico Pack 1.1, you might have noticed one feature of giving different colors to folders. now, try this out: make any folder hidden, and then try to color it. now press F5 and refresh the view, and then you'll see the magic!!! You wont find that folder again!!! The folder will be there on harddisk but this theme pack makes it invisible as it was hidden. I have no idea it's a bug or it's a feature. Unless you know the full path, i mean, the exact location of that folder, there is no conventional way to access it, and if it is there, i dont know about it.
Anyway, all the best with the tool.

Windows does not directly support password protection on folders. There are several reasons, too many to list here, but the main reason, what happens when you forget your password.
Trust me, you don't want it.
I'd suggest that you post another question that specifies why you need to password protect a folder and we can determine a better way to protect your files.

you are not defined which OS you are using, If you you using Win 98 you can lock the folder from dos mode here is the procedure
1. create one folder in windows 98 at any drive means D, E etc. then give a name.
2. go to dos mode then rename the same folder and give another name and again come to windows mode
3. check your folder you can see a space (-) like this under the folder and you cant open it you cant copy it and you cant delete it.
alt+ctr+0 255 this is the method.
Option 2
in any OS you can use this software which is called folder security personal 2.52 in my opinion this is one of the best one and its very easy to use also you do one thing check this at any site and down load it.
best of luck.

To set a password for a folder, right click on the folder and to to Properties. There, you should have three tabs, one of which reads "Sharing". Click on the tab, and you should have an option that says "Make this folder private". After checking that box and clicking ok, a pop up box should come up saying that you haven't set a password and if you would like to set one. Click "OK" and set your password.

If you are using Windows XP, it helps if you have a login (welcome screen). Once there, right click on your folder and then on the "Sharing" tab, then check the "Make this folder private" checkbox.
Hope this Helps!

I would suggest you just make your own account on the computer and make your profile set to private...that way if other people get on your computer can login to a different account and they will not see your folders and files..
