CINNAMOMUM camphora. camphor tree.

my favorite tree for climbing. i have had several in different locations. in it's proper place and planted properly it can be a wonderful addition to any out area. need good drainage, can be messy and no friend to nearby walkways, it has more good points then bad.

not for use in close to garden or house, wonderful to look at (and to climb) follow simple placement directions and you won't have a problem. don't clean up under it. it will make it's own mulch and control thr weeds for you. very fast grower! one day small, the next you'd think it went poof! like by magic it's big.. did i mention it was good for climbing? if you have the room, go for it.

Great for a hammock. good for climbing too. a rope swing fits nice under it. wonderful tree if you like to climb.

They grow from 60'-100', can get quite broad at the top, and crushed leaves smell like camphor.

A hard freeze killed mine stone dead. I would guess that might be a drawback. It's also considered in some areas to be a non-welcome invasive planting. Like the Chinese Tallow, some groups advocate they not be planted.

well if you don't like the smell of camphor, that could be one. i understand that when in bloom, they smell just like camphor oil.
