Any ideas? Not the basic abortion, war, global warming ones. Something creative? :D

I was thinking about doing something on school massacres (shootings) but I don't know how I can make that a debate and I don't know if that would be appropriate.

so please HELP.

How about speaking out against the Electoral College? In 2000, Al Gore won the national popular vote by about 500,000 votes, but lost in the Electoral College. In 2004, George W. Bush nearly lost the Electoral College vote even though he won the national popular vote by about 3 million votes. It is an outdated, unnecessary method of electing a President. Why not vote for President on the basis of the raw popular vote? (If you want to dig into this just a little bit, you'll also find that the Electoral College unfairly favors small states that are guaranteed at least one member in the House of Representatives and two U.S. Senators; in other words, no matter how small the population, every state gets at least 3 electoral votes. Going with the popular vote would restore the idea of one man/woman=one vote.)

hi...

i know how anxious you must be feeling;because a debate needs more skill and expression ...

well nowadays.. all the debate topics range from abortion to mobile or cellular world.. you can perhaps speak about the following topics too! well you can turn your topic into a debate say: should guns be carried as a measure of safety to school or should carrying arms be prohibited ! something ike this will do!

* online teaching vs classical teaching
* multifacted jobs vs the opportunities available
* importance of married life vs live in relationship
* influence of politics on young minds
* genetic engineering or cloning ! boon or bane?
*adoption : will it change the life of an orphan/ childless couples

so i think you must be able to pick up topics from these or you may chose according to your thoughts...

anyway irrespective of te side your speaking for ... be expressive and make sure all your points are convincing fro the judge..

good luck for the war of words

If you wanted to do school shootings, you might be able to make a better debate using the more general topic of gun control and the pros and cons it has. I don't see why it wouldn't be appropriate, and there are plenty of reasons to support it and oppose it. I think it would make for a pretty heated debate, and you could try to tie it in with your original idea of school shootings. Good luck!

How about capital punishment....that is like opening a can of worms...just took a criminal justice class and it was very controversial. Also we talked about plea-bargaining.
