Normally you would if you take an airplane.

There were few instances in the past, that if you have a multiple US Visa, you can travel by land to Canada even without a Canadian Visa. With all the rules changing including Americans and Canadians to carry passport at the border starting this month, I would rule out that that is a thing of the past.

It doesn't cost you a lot to apply one, we have a consulate in Buffalo, NY, few miles away from the border.

i supposed you have a tourist visa for US?

yes i believe you will be needing a separate visa for canada since its a different country and not a state..
