3 men go to a hotel. They share a room for $30 a nite. They each give $10 and go up to their room. The manager calls the bellhop over and says he charged the men too much for their room. He asks the bellhop to take 5 loonies up to the 3 men's room and give the $5 back to them. Bellhop goes up the men's room, knocks on the door and presents the men with the five loonies and tells the men they were charged too much for their room. The 3 men say "just give us each 1 loonie and you keep the other 2."
So,now what did each man pay for their room? 10-1=9...Each man paid $9...3x9=27...plus the Bellhop's $2 for a grand total of $29. What happened to the other $1??

The easiest way to think about this is simply to ask the question, "How much did the men pay out?" When the bellhop offers the five dollars back to the men, and they each accept only $1 apiece, they are voluntarily agreeing to pay $27 for the room instead of $25 (probably just to keep from having to deal with the change). They give the bellhop $2 for his trouble. The men are now out $29 instead of $30. There is no extra dollar to account for.

It is false logic.

The room originally cast $30. Each paid $10.
When the price was changed to $25, each man was refunded $1, making their contribution $9 each. Total payment $9 x 3 = $27. The Bellhop's $2 tip is the remainder of the $27 payment once the $25 room is accounted for. There is no "Other Dollar"

the men paid $25 for the room ($30-$5 too much). So $25 plus the $1 dollar each = $28 then the bellhop kept $2 = 30. The men actually paid $2 between them for a tip.

There is no other dollar. The three men paid 27 dollars for a 25 dollar room. The bellhop has the other two dollars.

It is false logic. The room costs 25 dollars. They initially paid 30 dollars. Don't waste time beyond that. Each man paid $8.33 (rounded) plus a tip of $.66 (rounded) for a total of 30 dollars, (rounded).

Bad math, as the room actually cost $8.33, not $9
