A sweet 16 is supposed to be a huge party because it's when you "become a woman."

Your Sweet 16 --- honestly I don't know what the big deal is because there isn't anything fantastic you can do at 16 but drive you can't smoke drink or live on your own so it's kind of pointless, but it gives you a reason to party for 1 day legally I guess.

Back in the early ages, girls at sixteen were considered really to marry, So there would be a huge party/ball so she can advertise that she was available
