that's call an ego, and that is natural,, an ego formed to maintain our existence in this world, to survive.

without an ego, you will choose death, rather than to life.

and that's why religion formed. to control our emotion, our ego, our passion, so its found its balance.

e.g. in (most of all) religion we learn that people must care to each other not to think only to your self, beside of that we have survive our existense, dignity, and many valuable life things.

I would not say that everyone worry about themselves a lot. I think that the society and the people demand thing that can make a person feel they are not fit in that environment. The feeling of being can cause people to change themselves to fit in with other. There is not that much individuality. I personally think that the environment will affect the way the people worry about themselves.
