Here's why the USA won't win a world cup in at least a 100 years.

1- The world's best players have, and still hail from South America and Europe, with Africa and Asia making significant contributions.
2- MLS is a mediocre league with no true competitive feel, unlike the EPL, Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga, etc.
3- MLS is more concerned with importing old European glories, rather than concentrating on developing local talent.
4- Notice that MLS teams don't play significant games against other teams from north, central and south America, or are involved in some Libertadores or Champion's League type of tournament.
5- Whenever European teams play friendly matches in the US, they either don't bring the full squad or, if they do, the players never give 100% since no one takes them seriously.
6- The US national team hardly plays against decent teams, except right before, or during the World Cup.
For MLS to be truly competitive, the league needs to stop being in the same format as all other US professional leagues. What I mean is, there needs to be a farm system established in lower divisions like the soccer leagues found elsewhere in the world. In about 15-20 years there will be a decent talent pool from which to pick the best players (through trades and promotions) and maybe then, the US team may actually do something.

In 2010, I think Argentina and Brazil may be in the Final. But it depends on the group they are both in and if they do not face eachother prior to the final. Do not count out the dark hourses Camaroon and Nigeria. Being on their "home turf" they may surprise us all.

As far as the Italy v US game, Italy did not win but neither did the US. The US should have won though based on the momentum they had and the heart they all played with. If only they played like that the entire first round. Of course with the crappy officiating who knows. However, had the US taken care of business against the Cechs and Gauna we would not have been talking about this.

As far as the talent in the US, it is there but not discovered. Reason... money still plays a huge factor in player recruitment and development. I think that in 2014 the US will be a serious threat. In 2010 we will get past the first round and maybe the second but not the semifinals. Not yet at least.

Of course Italy did not defeat U.S. during the World Cup! Gosh, if you have brains you'd know U.S. should've won that game! The dumbo Italians had a goal made by one of their own players. That gave U.S. one point. Then U.S. player Beasley scored for the second time but it was offside! As much of a sucky team U.S. is, Italy wasn't able to defeat them! U.S. should've taken the victory! But now that you mention the final in the upcoming World Cup South Africa 2010--Germany will take the gold then!!! It won't be Italy. And U.S. will win it in the 4630 Moon Cup. It'll be Germany after 20 years!

I'm a true supporter of the Azzurri and let me tell you this, USA drew because of a fluke own goal. But yes, the Americans did put up a good fight although it was only in ONE match. They were of a lower class against the Czechs and Ghana.

2010 is quite far away and honestly, I don't see any rising Italian star that could possibly bring Italia to a consecutive World Cup win but I really hope a young talent does appear soon like Christian Vieri back in the late 90's. There's still 3 years to uncover one. Also, players like Grosso, Gilardino, Perotta and De Rossi will be very well experienced by then and will be good for the team if they can maintain their form. I'll be hoping for the best for Italy, Forza Azzurri!

As for USA.....................................................................

US is a lot better of a team than they were in 2002. Next year we're coming out with some upcoming stars like Josh Wolff, Freddy Adu, Eddie Johnson, Tim Howard... Will they make the finals, probably not. The US gave Italy one of the hardest matches they got that year. They'll do a lot better in 2010. They can't really do much worse...

Italy, yes...but I'm not so sure about the US. They are fairly new, but MAY be close to ready by the next world cup. I'd say Italy vs. Brazil.

FORZA ITALIA!
