My husband and I technically have 2 roommates, but they're not here that often. One of them works here but stays at her boyfriend's house (45 minutes away) a lot (she doesn't even have a bed here). I'd say she stops by 3 times a week - if that. The other one has her stuff here but isn't really living here - but when she does, her boyfriend (and his dog) are here. FYI - we already have 2 dogs so we have to "shift" them around so they don't fight. It's awesome. They've only been here to stay for a few days, two times, in the past month. Before that, they were never here because they were working back home, 4 hours away (they'll be here full time in January when school starts again). Anyway...I haven't asked them for any money for bills since I set everything up and I was here by myself then, but now they've been here on and off. How should we split the bills???

We could afford to pay the bills then, but not in the winter (husband is a wildland firefighter). Plus heating bills are higher in the winter. But the point is...they have to pay, but they're just avoiding it. What is fair since they are rarely there?

Why don't you explain it to them like you have to us. You did not charge them before because they weren't there, now that they are around you want to sit with them and work out a payment arrangement. They are adults--this should be ok---they know that there is no such thing as a free lunch.

You can't. The bills are your responsibility only! What you should have done was.... Sat down and gone over the monthly bills with your roomates from the beginning. Since that is not the case. The bill paying solely rests on your shoulders.

Sorry

when they are there full time i would look at the bills and ask them what they think is fair and devid it up .. if you make one pay the other will have to also.. kinda the rule.. they may leave if they dont want to pay.. just an fyi they do have the option... is it getting hard for you to pay it.. and do you want them to be around? some things you should look at..
