Compulsive buying is like any other addiction. Buying triggers the reward center in your brain. For some it's money, sex, drugs alcohol, gambling, eating, etc. They all trigger, in one way or another, pleasure in the brain. you just need to figure out a way to disassociate buying with pleasure. That "just" is not easy.
So when you go to buy something think about what is bothering or stressing you. Are you bored? Trying to escape from some situation? Then direct yourself to something else, exercise is usually a good thing to divert to, or drink a glass of water, or pursue an activity you like.

Volunteer in a soup kitchen or some other work that assists people who are truly in poverty. This will help you see how much you really do have. Commit to waiting at least 24 hours before purchasing anything other than food or medicine.

Make your salary direct deposit to the bank, and don't bring any debit or credit card when you go shopping. Just bring the exact cash (previously withdraw from your account) you need to do the "necessary" purchase.

just put enough money in your wallet for that day... leave your credit cards and excess money at home... then go to work... that way you'd only be spending the money that you're carrying... i do that all the time... did wonders... i ended up saving for the things that really mattered...
