You know, if Oprah could, I believe she would help every person, every country, every worthwhile cause, but even the wealthiest of people have to pick and choose. One of her passions is Africa and it's a good cause. There are whole generations of people dying over there and too many orphans. Anything she can do is an improvement to the human race. God bless her and others like her!

She is great. She is an amazing women and i wonder why she hasn't thought of running for president? Anyways...I was watching CNN this afternoon when i heard of the news of her school for girls in Africa opening. It was interesting because she had mentioned going to many Many inner-city schools across the USA and when she asked the kids what they wanted most they mentioned things like Ipods, sneakers, video game consoles, etc... and when she went to Africa they all said an education is what they wanted and she was so touched by that she said she wanted to do something about it. Initially she wanted to invest $10M that eventually turned into $40M. Another fact was that it would not discriminate on race but only by economic qualifications. The girls family would have to make less than $800/month in order to qualify for attending the school.

I agree it is hard to swallow when our country is in such need to enrich our school system that has been tainted by the hands of the government; so much that the well of education and our educators have all but turned to dust. However, if a group of young women who may have had no chance at all in life vs. kids who take things for granted in our country I am glad that the more deserving are rewarded.

Oprah's school is for young women? Educated women can control their reproduction rates and controlled reproduction rates help raise the standard of living for those who need to increase the quality of living.

Can people in America imagine life without reading materials. Reading material can be scarce in various parts of the world so people need to rely on village announcers or town criers to diseminate information.
However not all the people can gather when the news is announced. Teaching people to read enable them to read the news when it is convienient, and other news sources can give folks a different point of view so they can make a wiser decision.
Wiser people won't allow corruption, wiser people will use their resources better, wiser people plan for the future and wise Oprah hopes that the world become wiser and not waste things foolishly.
