I really don't know much about make-up and I'd like to learn. I don't know what colors look good and how to apply it properly. If I tell them, I want a day time look for work and tell them a little bit about my job, can they work from just info like that? If they do offer make-up lessons how much are they and how much is their make-up?

I can answer all of this! I used to work for MAC but I got a better makeup job and moved on... the answer to everything is YES. Except, they don't charge you for a lesson because you, as the customer, are expected to purchase one of the "sets" they apply to your face. Be prepared to spend about $60-70 for a start set, including foundation, powder, pigment and possibly eye liner/mascara. That would be for ONE look. If you don't want to purchase both night and day looks, have them write down the names of the product they use so you can "purchase them nextime." Good luck, and don't be shy about telling them which product you want to purchase. If you just want to purchase the pigments (eye shadow) you can do that as well....just have them write down everything they do/apply for you! Best of luck =)

Mac Makeup Lessons

It is because the bias is based off of a long history of competition and people trying to prove their product is better. Much like those who argue over Japanese vs. American cars and the sort. It is no dought PC's are more customizable in terms of hardware, however Macs use mostly the same components throughout creating an elitist market and ultimate consumer control. With that control and their edge in the market, they have enough money and rep to charge a lot more for full computers, and most of their marketing is hyped by Mac fanboys. PC's on the other hand require a lot more effort to build and maintain, and there is so much hardware out there that many more problems can occur. I am personally a PC person, but am open to both because they both have redeeming qualities. Macs are geared more towards hipsters. And PC's are geared more towards those who have a job. (bias)!

Not everyone knows how to apply makeup. Not everyone buys Cosmo and InStyle.

You should be able to go to any makeup counter in any department store or even like Origins or The Body Shop. Let them know that you're interested in a makeup lesson (although be prepared to buy something--it's nice to do so when they go and spend the time to teach you and explain the application, the best colors for you, etc.). You aren't required to buy anything, as you are free to shop around, but if you're sure you like it and you're sure you want MAC, it's nice when the salespeople go through that effort.

I've had makeup lessons from various places including The Body Shop, Clinique and Shiseido. Clinique gave me a sheet with the colors, names of the products with the color names, instructions, etc. Most other places will probably due so if you ask.

For a certain look, it's helpful if you wear an example of what you're going to wear to work. You don't necessarily have to go all the way, ie jewelry, but it's helpful for them. In my hometown, it was common for girls right before prom night to go to department stores to get their makeup done, although it's a little rude because I don't think they buy anything.

If you can find it, the Body Shop had a book called Make-Up. I believe it's out of print now but you should be able to find it from third party sellers, and if you look hard enough, your local store might have a few copies.

Yes actually they do offer make-overs,but you do have to buy $40 worth of make-up. Compared to some other brands of make-up Chanel,Lancome etc. They are more affordable, but just make sure you tell them what look you are going for because i had a make-over done once and ended up leaving looking like a drag queen. Also i have found that the guys who usually work the counters there are often better then some of the women. But whatever you do make sure to book an appointment, maybe go in one day to check out the colors/prices and then watch some of the people do make-up because then if you see someone you like then you could request an appointment with that person. Just have fun with whatever you do as that is what make-up is for,and experiment because what looks good on someone else might not always look good on us.

Learning how to do it yourself is best. As you get older or change your style you won't want to always ask someone or have to pay for advice. Learn what your best features are and accentuate them!

Why don't you first learn which colors you look best in. (http://www.shop4prom.com/prom_colors01.asp)

Next: find your skintone (http://www.shop4prom.com/prom_colors11.asp)

Then: find your ideal foundation at http://www.shop4prom.com/prom_skincare05.asp

Finally, check out the instructions for putting on eyemakeup! You will need 3 or 4 shades so you can 'sculpt' ur eyes like the makeup artists do. Highlight under the brow, and smudge a darker shade in the crease.

Hope this helps!

yes they do.when you go to the mac counter ask a sales representative to help you choose colors that suit your skin tone from foundation, powder, blush and concealer. also look for colors that will enhance and highlight your features. ask her to show you how to do it. they will give you a makeover but it is only right that you buy at least one product tested on you, majority of their products range from 20-30 dollars.not bad for pro quality makeup. there is also a mac instituite in new york but i am not sure if they teach consumers.good luck!

their make up is really expensive
to see prices go to
www.maccosmetics.com

they do offer makeup sessions!
ask them about it
it's about 50 dollars for them to do your makeup. while they do your makeup you can take note of how they apply your makeup on. however, after they give you the makeup, you can choose 50 dollars worth of whatever makeup you want for free!! :) such a great deal!
