Phoenix is well known for playing fastbreak basketball the last several years. Phoenix is on the West side of the country. Washington, is relatively new at this type of play , and since they are located on the East coast, announcers and journalists have coined them Phoenix-East. Meaning they play the same style of basketball

The Phoenix Suns are in the Western Conference. The Washington Wizards are in the Eastern Conference. They play a similar fast-paced style. So, the Wizards are an East version of the Suns. Hence the tag "Phoenix-East"
