Yaoi is more popular to female readers because of it's more focused on relationships between characters rather than about being a homosexual. It is said that women relate to yaoi because to them a handsome male would seem unapproachable, unattainable, that in yaoi, it's a fantasy for them to imagine themselves as this handsome male who can approach another male.
Another reason yaoi is popular is demographics: Female manga readers outnumber that of male readers, so it's easy to see why.

this is my guess: Females watch Yaoi anime, bc they're guys, they prob. feel weird watching yuri (or at least i do) and Guys are more into action animes (srry cant think of the word its called right now) and that leaves not so many veiwers for Yaoi.

Because there are alot of sexy guys in yaoi when guys can actually watch porn off from other porn's sites when girls can only watch yaoi thru anime becasue they are shy in natural so they wont go for gay's porn in real.
