A friend of mine who is a telemarketer, well actually she does surveys for the government, always gets ridiculed by angry people. Why? Are ppl so angry with their lives that they have to make other ppl so sad about themselves. I mean I know a lot of ppl (even I used to work in that industry) who work there temp. to, mostly, get their degrees and what not. I mean, are ppl that angry? I think most humans are just jerks. I mean if you don't want to be disturbed during supper time, don't answer the phone. If you're sleeping, don't answer the phone. If you can't stand telemarketers, get a block or something.
Ha ha, humans, they make me laugh.

Do you think it is less distrubing to answer the phone during dinner or to listen to the phone ring? No doubt you will say, turn off the ringer - which leads to it being forgotten and not turned back on. However you look at it, it's inconvenient. It's the one form of advertising that disturbs you at home and then asks for more time and money too.
I have done phone work for year. I have sold dating service memberships, Facelifters Kitchens, industrials supplies, and meat. I have asked people to participate in surveys and to give generously to Special Olympics. I think it is safe to say that I qualify as a profession telephone solicitor, and I can tell you from experience that people are friendliest when you:
- Speak in a grown up voice (those little girl voices are like nails on a chalk board)
- Try to pronounce the person's last name in the prettiest sounding way possible
- Be direct and to the point (this means knowing and being comfortable with your script)
- You get one chance to rebut a no. If they have to say no more than twice, you have overstepped your bounds.
- If men are rude to a female caller, you are not being pleasant enough on the phone. Make sure you smile and treat each person like a friend and you can't go wrong.
Peace!

The problem with telemarketers is that you when try to be nice to them they don't get the hint and let you go. I have tried to say things like I don't want your services/products at this time and then they try to overcome my objections. This is what makes me angry at them. After this happened enough, I do my best to end any call with them as soon as possible. I often just hang up without even speaking.

I don't know, but I was going to work as a telemarketer during the summer, and my teacher begged me not to. She said I was "too sensitive". I think she saved me from ALOT of hardache. Alot of my friends tell me about all the things people say when they were telemarketers... kind of scary.

its invasive to have someone calling into your home to advertise or take a pole. I think the whole thing should be illegal. You can't just block telemarketers, there is no way to do it. You can block one number of one company, but they can call from another number or another company. My main gripe is that I didn't give these people my phone number or my permission to come into my home. They took my number and invaded my privacy.

If you're laughing so hard how come you sound like you're complaining?!
Telemarketers are just like AIDS, or FLU or something, so horrible, easy to catch, can't get rid of, and will always cause you misery...... thats why I hate all the above!

Because telemarketers are, for the most part, the big things that float on the top of a septic tank and invade ones privacy. Phones are bought, subscribed, and paid for by the subscriber--not bottomfeeders trying to sell something.
I have blocks on all of my phones but people still invade my privacy. I get all the info I can on them and report every one of them.

Most telemarketers are basically trying to con the people they call.

I think most people take out their frustrations on people they don't have to speak with face-to-face. They had a bad day and the poor telemarketer who can't do or say anything about it gets the brunt of it. I just don't answer the phone...thank you caller-id.

OK... 1st of all, your final remarks are the stupidest thing I've heard, or read for that matter.
Now with the answer:
Cause it's darn annoying that you're watching t.v., doing whatever you're doing and some stupid person calls you on the phone and tries to sell you something! If you wanna buy something you GO TO THE FREAKING STORE!!

Because they are calling my house and bothering me. I think the telemarketers should give me their home phone number so I can call and bother them.
