of course its good to read and write! who told you its not? my guess is that it might be because of religious means?(not being religionist or watever). the thing is that by writing and reading we allow our soul to get a sense of control over our body. when you read or write, and this only occurs most often when either you're angry or relaxed and want your soul to speak. you basically want to pick a topic and want to stay as calm and focused as you can(if your not angry). you focus on this topic, think to yourself "what does my soul feel is right?". basically let out all the feelings of your soul as it speaks to you. after a while you wont need to write it out and you'll start feeling these strange takeovers of your mind as you start just doing your everyday things, stop to think about something and then BAM, your soul gives you such a random feeling. you will most often feel this when you first get up from bed and your stirring. think about something or your dream and then you get random feelings out of nowhere. for example, if you start thinking bad thoughts about your boss then all of a sudden something or someone in your mind goes "no, hes alright, hes just doing his job" or something. your soul basically takes over you bad thoughts about someone or something and fills it with good thoughts.

so yes keep reading and writing because it does as i described above.

Indeed! Reading and writing are the key factors in positive furthering of the human race. There wouldn't be knowledge without them, nor the society we live in today. I gurantee you that if every thug on the streets read "The Catcher in the Rye" and then sat down and had a discussion about it, they wouldn't be thugs at all! But this is a dying art, one that isn't practiced by the masses of the youth. I am going to have to disagree with the person who said that cursive is majorly important. It doesn't matter how you write, just how well. Additionally, I don't even know how to write in cursive, I can read it well enough however, and you can see that I write just fine. Hope I could be of service!

To make it short and sweet, too much is a bad thing. Reading and writing obviously stimulates the mind: intelligence and imagination. However, sitting all the time would be bad for a person's physical body, which needs exercise to remain healthy. Plus it would cause emotion and social problems; no human contact

I don't think it is bad to read and write. Did you know that cursive writing is becoming an ancient art? Over 45% of the students my mom teaches in 6th grade do not know how to read or write cursive handwriting. ..to me that is scary. I love to read, and to write, but I don't have a lot of time for it. And as far as I am concerned, so long as you are happy, the world is a better place, and if reading and writing make you happy over video gaming, or baseball, or whatever, more power to you!

You are talking to a writer so I may be biased. HECK NO!!!! Neither is a bad thing and is a constant source of reaching inside of ourselves (writing) or outside of ourselves (reading). It is a gift, a treasure, a dreamscape, a haven of safety to remove oneself from the mundane pleasures in life and just chill with a book or a journal. Hurrah for those who love the pen and who use the eyes to peruse the language of their choice. Mist

In the US, at the least -- these are probably the two best things one can do with free time... and with nearly all towns in US having free libraries, the whole thing is pretty low cost. I feel it is especially good to get as close to mastering these vanishi9ng arts as you can... fewer people, it seems, do either thing well, so you may find these skills will lead to work you enjoy, and a good living.

My experience tells me that anything that brings out my imagination is good for my well being. Reading, writing, playing music, etc. It makes me feel good when I accomplish or create something.

haha.

I love to read and write.
I write and express myself through poems.

I read to widen my general knowledge.

Do not swop over the essentials with the unessentials in life.
: ) Best of Luck!
