The best thiny to use is OXY clean in your laundry load. First spray the area with spray and wash, then add the laundry detergent to the washer with some oxyclean powder, and then add your whites. Allow the water to be added, as hot as the laundry can bear, and once the water is filled, allow it to go through a little agitating. Stop the cycle mid stream for about 15 minutes and then pour in gently, 1/4 cup of bleach, then allow it to go through it's cycle. Be sure to use 2nd spin to ensure no bleach smell residue..

I wash all whites except nylons in hot water with bleach. Bleach only works for 10 minutes. After that all the soaking in the world does no good. Is it possible you may be talking about items with some nylon in? There is a product that you use just like adding a color to fabric, it is a nylon whitener. You can find it with fabric dyes in the stores. Hope this helps.

I don't know just how you would do it now, but they used to rinse whites in bluing.
They would do this with a wringer washer.
They would take the clothes out of the washer & run them through the wringer into the first rinse, to which they added bluing.
This made the whites whiter.

Oxi Clean works well with whites, but this is how I do it:
One scoop of Oxi Clean
1/4 C bleach
Warm water prewash
Drain water but don't rinse
Add detergent
Warm water wash
Warm water rinse
Cool water rinse
I find that if I rinse the second time, it makes a huge difference. I know you use a lot of water, but sometimes that is the price you have to pay to turn dingy whites bright again.

20 mule team borax is one of the best kept secrets in laundry. You should be able to get it at your grocery store. I use it with good results.

There is a product called "blueing" and it has a blue tint. My mom used to add it ot our laundry whites. The blue tint cancels out the yellow so the whites look really bright white. go to this website you you can buy some.

yes, like everyone said, you need to add a "boosting" agent, along with your bleach in your laundry - like Borax, Oxyclean, or plain old Baking Soda, that will help your situation
