i've been on it since november 13th...and i've had a nonstop period since then...its more like spotting though....my stomach is really hard at the bottom...and my boobs are swelling up so big...i think i might have gotten pregnant on it....but i've read in some things that if you got pregnant on the shot theres so much stuff in the shot that it wont produce enough of the pregnancy hormone for the test...i've already taken a test and it was negative.....is that true?

What you are describing are the typical symptoms a first-time user of the Depo shot experiences due to the hormones that this medication contains. Chances are that you are NOT pregnant; I'd say you are about 99.9% safe. By the time you take the second or third shot, most of these symptoms will have gone away in all probability; your periods will stop coming at all by the end of the first year of correct and consistent use. Make sure that you keep the appointments to get your shots at the time it's supposed to {the next one would be on February 13th, give or take a couple of days}. Good luck, and the best wishes for the New Year.

I took that shot for years.
I wouldnt say you are pregnant at all. The shot affects people differantly. I lost my period completely while I was on it. It did take me about a year to get pregnant though after I went off.
Depo does make you gain weight though that is one thing that stinks about it.

I know this may seem a little off topic but I had the same symptoms. I developed clots from it and had my period for almost 6 months. Crazy enough when I went back to doctor's I told them of symptoms and I was pregnant. Ask your doctor. I then found out that at that time it wasn't recommended for younger women under 25. I was 20 at the time. http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/stdhpv.htm

Hi! It is common to bleed after starting on DP. The periods eventually dry up and stop altogether (it is WONDERFUL!) I had my first DP shot after having my 2nd child and I bled for 5 months straight. The periods will stop. BUT...I would have a blood test done at your doc's office to make sure that you are NOT pregnant. Good luck!
