Although sometimes allowed under home rules, the ace can only be low according to the American Cribbage Congress official rules. If you ever plan to play competitively only use the ace for low.

I've been playing cribbage for 35 years and have never known ace to be high in a run.
"Aces are always a low card and have a counting value of 1. Face cards always have a counting value of 10 but retain their customary rank for runs, thus 9,10,J,Q,K is a valid run of 5. Because the ace is always a low card, it only counts as a run in combination with the 2 and 3, but not with the Queen and King."

When you play with me it won't count.

Ace is always low in cribbage.
