As two friends of mine told me (they are computer technicians), when you aren't using your computer, turn it off. It'll last longer.
I was anyway, so it wasn't a problem.

Age old question. Consider that when your computer is on, the hard drive is spinning. The hard drive has a life of typically 10,000 hours. If on 24/7 it may only last 3 years. If you turn it off, maybe 10 years. Now consider how long a computer lasts before it is obsolete - typically 3 years. Hmmmm, wonder why warranties are usually just 3 years....
I turn mine off...

Log off and choose hibernate option. The hard drive is at rest and you can be up running a lot quicker.

It is better to turn it off; if you are not going to use it for an hour or more. If less than an hour you would do better to put it in stand-by mode.

well, i prefer to log it off OR just turn off the screen (pressing the button) NOT turn it off. turning computer off quite wastes time n energy! n let's think computers r like human, so we should give them little rest, don't allow them 'sleep' n 'wake' them up again...!
