I'm not sure what you are asking. Are you asking if a child support payment can be made directly to the child and not the caretaker? If so, it depends on where you live. You must remember that the child support payment is for the care of the child and the needs of the child. It isn't like a savings account for that child. A portion of the moneys is to pay for living expenses, etc. If I were you I would contact the local SRS office in your community. Your answer will vary from area to area.

I agree with DB abouty the possibility of the unfairness... It is sad that children have to get in the middle of the financial affairs or reap the consequences of one parent not taking financial responsibility too.
If the child is not being cared for in a manner that is proper by the custodial parent then dept of children & families would be called or the courts would have the other parent caring for the child. Right?
However... I've also seen where the child receives the money and quickly learns that they can buy what they want instead of what's needed in the household's best interest. I knew a person in high school who was an alcoholic by age 17 - he received all of his child support personally.
The child is part of a household, he's not just one person - and money cannot always be spent on new shoes for the child, when a high electric bill has to be paid. I think it's hard for the parent who pays child support to see the child as part of a unit that needs to work together for the child's best interest - because the parent wants to only pay the obligation - but possibly to have some control over what's happening with the money. Priorities have to be set when a single parent has a budget, and unfortunately those priorities have to be set by the person who has primary custody of the child.
Parents who pay child support should understand that the child support should only be expected to meet basic needs (well.. unless you are a rock star paying 1 million a year...) Anyhow..
Typically single parents have to manage a bigger household than a single person would, yet with the same average income as a single person.
Imagine how much food a 15 yr old eats too... That would probably eat up the support right there.
Stepping off my soapbox now...

Do you mean can child support be paid until the child is that old, or do you mean can the child support be paid TO the child?
I am not sure the age in other countries, but i know in australia it can be paid as long as the child is still a full time student, or up until the age of 18. i am assuming that it is 18 in america too.
child support generally would not be given to the child, unless their are exceptional circumstances. child support payments are meant to help the custodial parent in the costs of raising the child - not to give to the child to spend how they want.

You have to support your child to the age of 18. In some states that age is raised to 21 and college graduation.

Child support goes to the custodial parent, not the child. If you fear that your payments are not going towards the care and support of your child then you need to contact the other parent of your concerns or speak to a lawyer.
Some states will allow you to put the funds into a special tax free bank account for your child, but there must be a parents name also attached to said account.

its Child SUPPORT, not Child TRUST FUND.
if they allowed that, the children would buy things like CD's, posters and junk. thats why its sent to the parent.
support goes until the child is done college.
here are some links that may help, just click on your state and find the section you want.

Child support can only be payed directly to the custodial parent.
Sometimes the money never gets spent on the child as non of the money has to be accountable to the government that collects it.
It's a very unfair system!

Yes child support can be made out until the child is 18. I guess also it depends what state you live in and how their child support laws are.
